Operation Community Cats

We envision a world where all cats live safely inside, and every kitten born can find a loving home.

How can we help?

Operation Community Cats (OCC) is dedicated to helping felines in the Treasure Valley that have strayed, been orphaned, or are feral with the proven Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) approach.

When a cat comes your way, it may have chosen you for a reason. You are kind, compassionate, and love to help where possible. We, at OCC, are here to help good people with their cat situations. Be it for low-to-no cost spay/neuter, to borrow humane traps, or for general advice on dealing with outdoor cats, we have you covered.

What is TNR, and why are communities adopting this philosophy?

THE PROBLEM

Everyone knows cats are resourceful and can multiply quickly. Over time, if these cats are not altered and cared for, an abundance of malnourished,  diseased felines can be the result. This is especially true in areas not served by a local/municipal shelter as is the case with many Idaho and Eastern Oregon counties.

THE CURE

It has become evident that the best way for communities to control the feline population is for people to humanly trap the cats, bring them to a veterinary office or spay/neuter clinic where the cat will be altered and marked with a tattoo and ear clip, and once the cat has recovered from its procedure, it will be released exactly where it was trapped.

If the colony of cats is watched over by caregivers, new, unaltered cats will be trapped, fixed, and released as they appear. This way, the orphaned and feral cats can live out their days peacefully, and over-population will not occur. Caregivers are almost always volunteers who work hard to lovingly care for their colonies. They do the job we wish municipalities would but can’t afford. They supply food, water, shelter, and medicine anyway they can. They defend their cats from harmful people and animals. Colony caregivers are the heroes of the TNR world.
